1. What maintenance
is required?
With houses that have "Half Log" external cladding finishes, we recommend
one coat timber preservative every 2 years. Houses with fibre-cement cladding
should be painted every 5-7 years.
2. How long will
timber homes last?
Timber houses have the same life span as conventional brick houses. As
is the case with all types of houses, regular maintenance is required
and if given properly, a timber house can last more than a lifetime.
3. How long will it
take to build a timber house?
Construction of a regular 3- bedroom house can take approximately 6-8
weeks.
4. What about
in-door braai facilities?
Steel braais or fireplaces can easily be build into a timber home. We
do our insulation in a specific way so that the client can choose his
own external finish, like S.A. Pine or 12.7mm rhino board.
5. Do all town
boards accept timber frame constructions?
Timber homes is a recognized building method and is accepted by all municipalities
countrywide. Financial institutions for bond purposes also accept it.
6. Can one build
to one's own design?
Yes. The client has a choice of the size & number of rooms. PINE HOMES
can suggest layout and design according to each client's needs and tastes.
7. Can one build
a timber house on any site?
Timber houses are actually more adaptable for difficult sites. Because
of the light structure they can be built on stilts against steep or uneven
sites and at a much cheaper cost than conventional houses.
8. Is insurance
more expensive on a timber home?
No. There is no difference between brick and timber homes.
9. What about later
additions?
It is very easy to add on rooms, because of the construction. Doing additions
is less messy, due to less dust and building rubble, than in a brick house.
Extensions are also much quicker and more cost effective.
